Nassau, Bahamas – The Department of Immigration successfully held its official handover ceremony today at Mount Royal House, receiving new operational equipment, comprising of sixty (60) body-worn cameras and one hundred ten (110) handheld Push-to-Talk (PTT) radios from the Bahamas Telecommunications Company (BTC).

The body-worn cameras represent the latest in modern law enforcement technology. Compact, durable, and designed for frontline work, these devices provide clear, objective records of interactions between immigration officers and the public. They support transparency, accountability, investigations, and community trust, while enhancing officer safety through features such as real-time video streaming, GPS tracking, and secure data storage.

The PTT radios allow instant, one-to-many voice communication across teams, ensuring officers remain connected during daily operations and emergencies. Integrated with GPS and compatible with cameras and dispatch systems, these radios improve coordination, reduce response times, and enhance situational awareness for both field officers and command staff.

“BTC is proud to be the partner of choice for the Department of Immigration. These are not just tools; they represent a shift to smarter, faster, and safer ways of working,” said Delmaro Duncombe, BTC’s Director of B2B Operations. “From real time connectivity to incident visibility, these solutions give frontline teams the edge they need to remain vigilant, accountable, and effective.”

As part of the ceremony, a live demonstration of the new equipment was conducted, showcasing the features and practical applications of both the body-worn cameras and the PTT radios in field operations.

Director of Immigration, Stephen La-Roda, emphasized the importance of these resources in modernizing the Department’s operations and expressed gratitude to partners for their support. “With BTC’s partnership, we are equipping our officers with the tools for greater safety, accountability, and public trust.” said Director La-Roda.
The Department of Immigration remains committed to leveraging innovative technology and professional partnerships to uphold the highest standards in operations and maintain public confidence in its work.
