Entry Requirements - Bahamas Immigration

The Bahamas welcomes visitors from around the world, and we make every effort to keep Immigration formalities to a minimum. Requirements vary by nationality, so please review the information below before you travel.

Passports

All persons entering The Bahamas must present a valid passport. Your passport must be valid for at least six (6) months. Passport cards are not accepted.

Visas

Whether you need a visa depends on your nationality. Visit our Before Your Arrival page to see which countries are visa-exempt, which require a visa, and any special circumstances. Visas are processed and issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and must be obtained before you travel: https://mofa.gov.bs/evisa-online-services/

What to Have Ready at the Border

All visitors must be able to present:

  • A return or onward ticket, or other means of departing The Bahamas
  • A valid travel document for onward travel, where applicable
  • Proof of sufficient funds to support yourself during your stay, or details of a local sponsor
  • A completed Bahamas Immigration Disembarkation/Embarkation Card

Visitors must not engage in any form of gainful occupation (work) while in The Bahamas. Admittance is not automatic, and leave to land may be refused even when these requirements are met.

Length of Stay

Visitors may stay for a maximum of eight (8) months, depending on nationality. Visitors from many countries may stay for up to three (3) months. The period granted is recorded in your passport and is at the discretion of the Immigration Officer at the port of entry. You must be able to support yourself for the full period.

Extending Your Visit

If you wish to stay longer, you must apply to the Department of Immigration before your authorized stay expires. Extensions are granted at the Department’s discretion. Visit our Extend Your Visit page for details. Overstaying is a punishable offence.

Vessels must complete the Inward Passenger and Crew Manifest for all persons aboard.
