Officers Enhance Skills at U.S. Embassy-Led Fraud Detection Workshop
Fifteen (15) Immigration Officers from various units within the Department of Immigration participated in a week-long Intermediate Fraudulent Detection Workshop beginning February 9, aimed at enhancing document examination techniques and strengthening border security operations. The workshop, facilitated by the United States Embassy, brought together local law enforcement partners including the Royal Bahamas Defence Force, Royal Bahamas Police Force, and the Bahamas Customs and Excise Department, fostering strengthened inter-agency collaboration.
Deputy Chief of Mission Kimberly Furnish addressed attendees during the workshop, while Assistant Director Sophia Ferguson emphasized the importance of professional development, noting that such initiatives strengthen border security and enforcement efforts through knowledge-sharing and skill-building.
On February 13, participants successfully completed the training. Herschel Walker, United States Ambassador to the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, addressed the officers and presented certificates. Closing remarks were delivered by Acting Assistant Director Crystal McKay, who encouraged officers to apply their training with vigilance, professionalism, and integrity.
The training reaffirmed the Department’s commitment to capacity building, operational excellence, and continued vigilance in fraud detection and enforcement.
