One Hundred Recruits Begin Immigration Officer Training Programme
One hundred Bahamian men and women from across The Bahamas have officially begun their transformation into Immigration Officers as part of the Department of Immigration’s ongoing recruitment programme. These recruits entered the programme across three recent intakes: April 7, May 26 , and June 2, 2025.
Their journey marks a critical step in strengthening the Department’s capacity to protect the sovereignty of The Bahamas through effective border management and enforcement. Over a four-month training period, recruits will be shaped into disciplined, knowledgeable officers equipped to carry out the Department’s mandate with professionalism and pride.
Training is conducted in two core areas: academic and physical. Recruits are rigorously instructed in the Immigration Act and accompanying Regulations, ensuring a solid legal foundation for their duties. Simultaneously, they engage in physical training and drill exercises delivered by the Department’s own drill instructors. These components develop the strength, discipline, and teamwork essential to life in uniform.
The training programme falls under the purview of Assistant Director Rudolph Ferguson, who holds key responsibility for its planning and execution. His oversight ensures that each recruit is fully aligned with the Department’s standards and values, including integrity, service, and resilience.
The Department of Immigration officially welcomed the new recruits, marking the beginning of their transformative journey. The Honourable Alfred Sears, Minister of Immigration and National Insurance, also extended his warm welcome, commending the recruits for stepping forward to serve their country with honour and commitment.
